Makkari Town Full Time ALT Position

This opening is for a full-time position as an assistant language teacher (ALT) in Makkari Town, Hokkaido Prefecture starting on October 1, 2022 with the contract finishing on March 31, 2025.
The placement will be in elementary and junior high schools in Kami Town where the ALT will assist as a team teacher and help plan English lessons under a schedule created by the Board of Education. As well as teaching English lessons, you may also be asked to participate in other school activities such as clubs, cleaning the school, cultural festivals, and speech contest preparation.

Position Requirements
Be a native speaker of English
Attained a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in an English-speaking country
Are presently residing in Japan
Able to speak conversational Japanese
Have a strong desire to be involved in the local community

Driving
Japanese drivers’ license or valid international driving permit highly advised. No trains available in areas where schools are. Rental car available.

Makkari is a village located in Shiribeshi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan.
Makkari is popularly known as “Ezo Fuji”, and is a pure farming village that has developed with agriculture as its core industry. The main crops are potatoes, radishes, carrots, etc. Among them, edible lily roots boast the largest shipment volume in Japan. It is also well-known as the birthplace of enka singer Takashi Hosokawa, and the Makkarigawa River Park, which runs through the village, has a statue of Takashi Hosokawa singing enthusiastically, making it a popular tourist spot.
